End of week 12

The final week of school is coming. There’s that mixed feeling thing going on again. Dreading the coming week as it’s going to be pretty damn hectic with 2 presentations, 1 report and 1 final quiz. Oh, and did I mention I now have 7 classes each week. Since I started TA-ing for Negotiation class, I’ve been totally swamped by work! The only thing that keeps me going is knowing that the amount I earn from being TA will probably pay for my flight to Europe!

Speaking of which, I don’t think I’ve announced it here yet, but YES, I’m going for Exchange baby! πŸ˜€ Austria, here I come! I’m gonna love it in Graz. It looks like the quiet, old town kind of place. Exchange is going to give me a lot of time to myself once again. Since I’m going with 4 guys to FH Joanneum, I think I’ll be alone most of the time. Will probably leave Singapore to travel Europe before the term starts with Dj. I already have a list of places I want to visit! This is exciting ^^

Here are some snippets of life recently:

Image

Hello boyfriend. Finally off his cast 2 days ago πŸ™‚ Will be walking soon and I can’t be happier!

Image

My awesome group mate from Valencia, who cooked authentic Spanish paella for us. IT WAS SO DARN GOOD.

Image

After today’s Customer Relationship Management presentation. My 2 friends’ final presentation before they graduate! Congratulations Mich and Zhikai. We bloody hell wrote a 12,000 word report…

Image

The BFFs (Cindy & I) had sweet cravings. We just so happened to walk past Canele. So… macarons! I had the fleur de sel and Cindy had feuilletine. Both really amazing. We will be on a quest to try every flavour ^^ And we are waiting for our dearest Ivy to return so we can bake macarons, and cupcakes and everything! YAY. We love you, Ivy! πŸ™‚

Strength

My heart’s still heavy, but I’m glad I did it anyway. I really hope things will only get better for us. Haha. Love. Amazing how the people you love can bring you so much happiness and sorrow.

Feeling so vulnerable right now. I hope the tears and some sleep will wash away this ache.

Maddie, you can be such a fool…

Christmas 2012

It’s the most wonderful time of the year
There’ll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When love ones are near
It’s the most wonderful time of the year~

It truly is! And it was a perfect day, if there ever was one.
Went for midnight mass with my brother. We learn something new every time from Father Terence. This year, we learnt how the Christmas tree came about! I guess I never really thought about it.

This year, St. Anthony’s is decorated with green trees, including a single Christmas tree. Father Terence likened that single Christmas tree with how much distractions we have in life, with all the lights and the decorations, unlike the trees in the hall, which are bare, and only with their green leaves. Think about it…
Let’s not lose the true meaning of Christmas. As Father Terence said, before we make any toast on Christmas, make one to Jesus, and mean it πŸ™‚ Cheers to Jesus!

After mass, we went home and cleaned up the house. Seriously, Aunty Jasmin really really chose the right time to go home! Haha. We’ve been sleeping at 3am the past 4 days preparing for Christmas. I guess Christmas is that big of a deal for the family. Woke up early to start cooking our leek and broccoli soup and to bake our ham with nut and dried fruit stuffing. All this cooking and baking sure is tiring! But it’s definitely worth it when people really enjoy what you made.

Image

Β Peanut butter and jelly thumbprints – the perfect pairing

Image

Β Rum balls – extremely boozy

I’m particularly proud of the 2 cookies above. Everyone loved them! They were both quite a bit of effort but they are definitely worth the effort πŸ™‚
I am seriously considering going into professional baking once I graduate from SMU, and after a few years of work. Le Cordon Bleu, here I come!

We feasted, lunch, tea and dinner! I skipped dinner and went for dessert of course. There’s always room for dessert. Anyway, was so stuffed I could hardly breathe. HAHA! It’s a morning workout for me. And I’m not making the mistake of weighing myself. I shall give my body a few days to get back into shape!

After dinner, I went over to Dj’s place. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him. Still handsome as usual. Hahaha πŸ™‚ I got him a laptop sleeve and a passport holder as a gift. I think I’m pretty thoughtful. I searched high and low for the passport holder and finally found one from Herschel after I kind of gave up and was looking for something else! Fate. A passport holder for someone who loves traveling and also for future travels together. And in a few days, it’ll be Bangkok! Lots of shopping and massages! πŸ™‚

It was a great Christmas and I ended the day right too.

Just finished washing the dishes. It’s time to turn in. Then it’s morning workout time! Goodnight.

Love,
Maddie

Christmas 2012

The week in review

It’s the week before Christmas, and we’ve been busy as hell. Aunty Jasmin sure chose a good time to go back! Been doing the housework. It feels like living in Korea all over again… How I hate doing laundry. SIGH.

But it’s been a productive week!

Met with my good friends Max and Zinnia on Monday. First for gym, then for dinner at Saddad’s new kebab place. It’s called EPIKebabs, and the kebabs are amazing! You’ve gotta try the wraps because they toast it till it’s a little crispy, unlike most places.Β Image

EPIKebabs is located on the ground floor of Wilkie Edge! Do check it out if you’re anyway near and need a quick bite. The wraps come in 2 sizes, regular and large. The regular costs $5, not bad considering a Subway wrap costs like $6. Totally unsustainable diet for me!

After the kebabs, we wanted to go for sashimi at Standing Sushi Bar but it started raining and we couldn’t get there without an umbrella. So we headed to Sunshine Plaza instead for dessert, only to discover that the dessert place had closed down! Fortunately, a new place has sprung up. Ok, not so new. It’s been there for about 6 months now, just that I haven’t been to Sunshine in a long while. The ice cream parlor is called Merely Ice Cream and it serves quite a range of interesting ice cream flavours. I chose to have the Bailey’s Coffee, Zinnia had Rum & Raisin and Max had Dark Chocolate.

ImageImageImage

OMG the Rum was so damn strong. I have to say it’s probably the best rum & raisin ice cream I’ve ever had, but I didn’t order it for myself because I felt like I’d get intoxicated after eating that single scoop. The dark chocolate was really rich too. I think the ice cream at Merely Ice Cream is pretty awesome. They also have very interesting flavours like Gula Pandan, Horlicks Panda (Horlicks + Hello Panda), Red Velvet and their signature, which is the Butterscotch. The butterscotch was amazing! Was tempted to get it but it felt like too much of an indulgence at the time. It has crushed graham pie crust and sea salt, which adds a whole new dimension to it πŸ™‚ I’m having a scoop the next time I go there!

On Wednesday, I finally got to climb Bukit Timah Hill with Cindy. Was probably a mistake wearing my Minimus. They got so muddy from the trek!

Image

I cleaned them up right after reaching home! We spent about 2 hours climbing and trekking, and was starving! Couldn’t wait for Rider’s Cafe, but we were too late for brunch, so we never got to satisfy our eggs benedict craving! We had a really good roast chicken though. It was nice and crisp, tender and moist. YUMS!

Image

The “Almighty” Roast Chicken with Roasted Fingerlings & Broccolini

We’ve gotta go back there for their brunch before school starts man. I really miss the eggs benedict. Although I just had eggs benedict on Thursday when I went out with Ervin for brunch at Pique Nique. Norwegian Benedict to be precise.Image

Was pretty good! Poached eggs with toasted English muffin, smoked salmon and sour cream with side salad. Ervin and I also shared a Sticky Date Pudding. Have I mentioned how I’ve been craving sticky date for over a year now?!

Image

It’s served warm and with butterscotch and vanilla bean ice cream. It was heavenly. HEAVENLY. If 21 December wasΒ Armageddon, I would’ve died a happy woman. HAHA!

Wouldn’t mind visiting Pique Nique again. Their menu looks great and it’s affordable. Unlike The Marmalade Pantry, where Hann Khee, Claire (and her plus one) and I had dinner. I had the Crab Caesar, which was good, but costs $22! GASP.

Image

Well, at least it’s real crab meat. Hahaha! The crab was marinated well too. Ok, it wasn’t a disappointment, but dessert sure was! We heard that The Marmalade Pantry’s cupcakes were good, so we attempted to order 3 interesting ones such as S’mores, William (chocolate + pear), Granny’s Apple (cinnamon apple + cream cheese) and Strawberries & Cream. The waiter told us that there was only Elvis (PB&J) and Cloud Nine (coconut) left. We were soooo sad! When we were ready to order something else, the other waitress who Β served us told us that there were other cupcakes available! That waiter is damn blur, honestly. He didn’t even seem to understand what we were saying half the time :/ We managed to get William and Granny’s Apple after all, together with Chocolate Deluxe (which turned out to be a muffin, not a cupcake!).

Image

We thought the Chocolate Deluxe was alright, although it turned out to be a muffin. It kinda reminded us of Sara Lee chocolate pound cake actually. HAH.

Image

Granny’s Apple. The most decent of the lot. The cream cheese frosting was good.

Image

There wasn’t much pear in William. I think they should’ve been more generous with the pear and chocolate and pear make a good pair! Pun not intended.

They don’t even look nice, do they? Oh well… For $4.50 a pop, I didn’t find them any special. I honestly think my muffins and cupcakes are better!

Been shopping for Christmas presents too. I don’t think I enjoy doing that so much anymore. I really spend SO MUCH EFFORT. It’s tiring… I just hope everyone likes their gifts, because I really put in a lot of thought into it.

It’s already Sunday, and I’ve been baking baking baking and cleaning cleaning cleaning the entire day. It’s tiring. Went over to Amma’s house to learn how to make the yummy steamed fruit cake from Godpa. I think I’ve got it down already! And today, I baked some spiced, buttery pecan snowball cookies and pistachio meringues. The first 2 batches of the meringue was a disaster because Mummy insisted that we had beat the egg white and sugar mixture enough! I had to whisk the mixture again after the 2nd batch failed.

Image

See, I got it right. The meringue test was a success. I even put it over my head and it didn’t fall out πŸ™‚

More baking to be done in the morning. OMG, it’s already 2.30am. I feel like I’m still in India… Will blog about my eventful Mumbai trip if I have the time soon!

I can’t wait for Christmas, and my potluck with friends on the 28th! Then soon it’s off to Bangkok too!

Dj gets back tomorrow night! (: Β I guess I didn’t realise exactly how much I missed talking to him until he finally managed to message me on Friday.

Goodnight everyone! God bless (:

The week in review

14 weeks

Tomorrow marks the start of the exam week! I should seriously do some proper planning next time. I have 2 papers tomorrow, one at 830am and another at 7pm. The bright side? My last paper is on the 6th of December, so I’ve got lots of time to study for that one!Β

Totally dying with Marketing Research now. No mood to study anymore. Been cramming like crazy for the past week. Been reaching school before 8am every day and studying till about 10pm. This is really tiring. And sitting down the whole day makes me feel like shit, so I’ve been exercising at about 11pm at night. EAT STUDY WORKOUT SLEEP REPEAT.

Β

I can’t wait for tomorrow to be over! Looking forward to the holidays. I can finally spend time with my family again. I haven’t seen them in a while and I really miss spending Sundays at my grandma’s place with the whole family.Β

Then there’s the BKK trip at the end of the year with Dj to look forward to as well! Will be counting down to the new year in the City of Angels πŸ™‚ Still in a little bit of disbelief that my mum is letting more go!Β

Β

Alright, back to studying!Β

And so I lie awake…

I’m not exactly having the best couple of weeks. First was Milo and his leg. My poor dog has osteoarthritis and he probably will never not limp for the rest of his life. Then was the whole grandma issue. I really can’t understand how anyone can be so irresponsible… Sometimes I wish I could see just one good thing in him, but I simply can’t.Β

And today, the moment I got back, my Mum told me that Cosmo’s in the hospital right very minute and is due for an operation in the morning. Can anyone tell me how this week can get worse? Really… I’m tired. I’ve been trying to cheer myself up all week, and I’m tired of doing that too. I’m not sure if I’m PMS-ing but I just feel so emotional now. It’s just been up and down the past few days.

Β

A heavy heart and unspoken words…

And so I lie awake…

Yes it has. And so much has happened since my last post!

It’s already the summer holidays and I’ll be off to Korea in about 1.5 weeks time for a 10 week internship with National Oilwell Varco. I’m excited, nervous… It will definitely be a whole new experience for me, to be living and working abroad, and alone to add! Miss Independent. HAH! I’m just left with the purchase of insurance and the school will approve the internship in no time.

Oh, and yesterday was the release of the results. HELL YEAH! You have no idea how happy I am, how proud I am of myself. I shall give myself a pat on the back right now. *PAT* Β I FINALLY worked hard and got the results. 3.81. What an improvement from 2.9! I’m going to keep motivated. Just watch me! πŸ™‚

Exactly one week ago, I celebrated my 21st birthday with my loved ones! It was a lot of work but still, lots of fun. Mummy booked Fraser Suites for the night and we got to use the entire poolside for the BBQ. It’s like Maersk BBQs all over again!

Ok let the pictures do the talking.

All my favourite people!

Happy birthday to me! Oh, and awesome dark chocolate cherry cake from Cedele πŸ˜€

My best friends from BP. And Dion made it all the way from Malaysia. So touched! πŸ˜€

Hann Khee and I. We had a nice heart to heart session at poolside. Great friend πŸ™‚

So glad he made it for my party (((:

Best group mates!

Buff boys and my closer friends from AC. It’s been awhile since I last saw them. Glad they came πŸ™‚

Pump room peeps. I miss those pump room days! Singing in that tiny container and always up to no good!

My BFFs. These girls just light up my life ❀

I’m glad everyone enjoyed the food and company, and it was great catching up with old friends. Some pleasantly surprised me by coming. It was an awesome day, wasn’t it? (:

Review: Whimsical Wants – Leanne Checkered Belt Dress in Olive Green

Finally, a dress in the most gorgeous shade of green! I absolutely adore this dress and both the olive and navy versions are equally beautiful. I had such trouble deciding which colour to keep for myself!

Apologies for the lousy picture quality. The lights in my walk-in wardrobe died recently!

Even with the lousy photo, the dress still looks great, doesn’t it? (: Suitable for work, school, or just about any day out!

Pleats down the front for some added detail and pleated skirt as well! I love the cutting on top and the neckline, very flattering for the shoulders (: Overall, a very flattering dress for all and comes with a very “retro” (as my friend put it) checkered belt to accentuate the waist. I always wear waist belts with dresses to give the illusion of curves!

I really want to alter the pit to pit on this dress though! It’s a little wider pit to pit. For reference, I usually buy items with ptp measurements of 12.5″ to 13″ as I’m smaller on top. It shouldn’t be a problem for UK 6 and up though! (:

And my other loves from the upcoming collection:

Gabby Tube Dress. Comes in yummy colours like this bright blue. Material is so soft and comfy! Wear as a dress or tuck into shorts, works both ways! (:

Lainey Flare Dress in green and burnt orange. Loving this flare dress! Would’ve kept this if it was a little shorter. Why must I be so short?! ): I especially love the one in burnt orange. The colour is extremely eyecatching!

Whimsical Wants’ 24th collection: Twirls & Swirls will be up later in the day! Have you liked and shared your favourite items yet? (:

Watch out for the launch (:

Love,

Maddie
